I am a Reader in Law at the Warwick Law School. I teach and publish in the fields of legal and political theory, and law and the humanities. I hold a BA(Hons) in Philosophy and English Literature (University of Sussex); an MA in Critical Theory (University of Sussex); a Graduate Diploma in Law (University of East Anglia); and a PhD in Legal Theory (Birkbeck, University of London). Before joining Warwick, I was Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Hong Kong where I was Deputy Director of Law and Literary Studies programme. 

My work has been published in leading journals, including The Modern Law Review; Law and Critique; Transnational Legal Theory; Social and Legal Studies; and Law, Culture and the Humanities. I am co-editor with Scott Veitch of Law, Obligation, Community (Routledge, 2018) which examines the multiple functions of obligations within political community. With Tara Mulqueen (Warwick) I am editor of Being Social: Law, Ontology, Politics (Counterpress, 2015), an examination of the significance of the work of French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy for contemporary legal and political thought.  I have held visiting positions at the University of Glasgow and the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities, University of London. I serve on the editorial boards of the journals Law and Critique and Law & Literature. Alongside colleagues from Warwick and the University of Galway I am the series editor of Critical Perspectives on Law, Culture and Justice, a book series published by Bristol University Press.    

I am a Reader in Law at Warwick Law School. I have joined Warwick in 2022 from Hong Kong. I am the co-founder and co-director of the Centre for Constitutions in Context at Warwick Law School with Dr David Vitale. I am a comparative constitutional lawyer and socio-legal scholar with a linguistically-informed specialism in South Asian law and politics, human rights law, gender and law, legal history, and law and film.

In 2024, I became the co-Editor in Chief of the peer-reviewed journal Constitutional Studies and contributed to the journal's re-launch. Constitutional Studies has bee recently reconfigured as the official publication of the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL) jointly with the Comparative Constitutions Project. I also serve as an Executive Committee Member of the UK Constitutional Law Association (UKCLA), the UK branch of IACL.

I hold a Doctorate, MA in South Asia Area Studies, and BA (Hons) in Nepali & Politics from the University of London (SOAS) and I was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

I am a scholar of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple (Quatercentenary Scholarship) and a non-practising barrister in England and Wales (Call: 2016).

I am also an award-winning documentary filmmaker; I trained at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV) in Cuba in 2014 and my work has been screened at the Raindance Film Festival (2015 award for best short doc, "Walking through Havana"), Sheffield Doc Fest (nominated for best student doc, 2015), and Shuffle Film Festival (nominated for best doc, 2015).

I am part of European Women’s Law and Gender action (EUWONDER) project on gender equality within the European legal order at the University of Pisa. I am also on the expert roster of iProbono and Rule of Law Expertise (ROLE) UK, I have worked as an external consultant for various United Nations agencies, and I have been teaching at the International Academy of the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
