I started out studying for a BA in English Literature at Queen Mary’s (or QMW as it was then) and went on to do both my MA, (in Culture and Social Change) and PhD (in contemporary film and fiction) at the University of Southampton. I joined Warwick in 2017 from the University of Birmingham where I was based from 2004 having previously taught at Brunel University.

In 2016-17, I was the principal investigator on the AHRC funded project ‘Digital Technology and Human Vulnerability: Towards an Ethical Praxis’. In 2019-20, I was the principal investigator for the follow-on project 'Life:Moving Onwards: Ethical Praxis and the use of film in the International End of Life Community'. I am the director/curator of Screening Rights Film Festival, the Midlands International Festival of Social Justice film and debate, which launched in 2015.

I am currently an Assistant Professor (Teaching Focussed) in Economics. I completed my PhD from the University of Manchester in 2019. My research focuses on labour market dynamics, firm behaviour, and gender representation. In particular, I am interested in worker flows and the effects of technological change (the future of work) and ageing on labour market transitions.

Since completing my PhD, my research agenda has expanded to include topics in the economics of climate change, particularly those examining the relationship between environmental policies and international trade in environmental goods. This work reflects my broader interest in understanding how policy design can shape sustainable economic transitions.

I have extensive experience teaching Macroeconomics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels across the Department of Economics and Warwick Business School as detailed in my CV. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I have supervised a substantial number of student research projects, 108 BSc dissertations and 21 MSc dissertations to date! Through these experiences, I have developed a strong ability to help students refine broad interests into well-defined, feasible research questions.

Beyond teaching and research, I am a keen advocate for “Women in Economics” and have served as an “academic advisor to female students” (2019-2025), supporting their academic development and wellbeing.

Tom Aben is an Assistant Professor in the Operations Management group at Warwick Business School. He received his PhD in Supply Chain Management from Tilburg University. Prior to his PhD, he was awarded a MSc in Supply Chain Management and a MSc in Academic Teaching from Tilburg University. Before joining Warwick Business School, Tom worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Tilburg University.

Tom's research is focused on the impact of digitalisation on both the intra-organisational and inter-organisational operations of organisations. More specifically, Tom is interested in how organisations implement and adopt (new) digital technologies, how digital transformations influence buyer-supplier relationships, and the role of a network of actors in the digital transformation of a complete sector. He integrates his primary research field of supply chain management with insights from the information systems field and the healthcare operations field.
