Brianne is a medical anthropologist currently working in the field of global health. Her research interests are in forced migration, well-being, happiness, mental health and global health. Her approach to research draws upon intersectionality, syndemics and structural violence to explain inequalities and vulnerabilities to risk. She is a qualitative researcher with particular expertise in ethnographic fieldwork which she has personally conducted in Cameroon, the Gambia, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

Brianne currently works on ORI, an NIHR-funded mixed-methods study at the intersections of systemic racism, social disadvantage, mental health, and community engagement. The aim of ORI is to establish an evidence base on racism and mental health in Brazil whilst co-designing effective, context-bespoke and culturally acceptable interventions to address mental health needs in underserved Black Brazilian communities across Bahia and São Paulo. She delivers trainings to research staff, prepares relevant reports, analyses and synthesises relevant findings from the collected data.

Previously, she was a Research Associate on FEARLESS ICU and ECLIPSE, both of which were NIHR-funded. FEARLESS focused on understanding and improving interprofessional teamwork in intensive care units to improve staff wellbeing and patient outcomes. In this role, she negotiated access and conducted observations in various ICUs and interviewed relevant staff members. ECLIPSE focused on the impacts of the neglected disease, cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), in three endemic countries: Brazil, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka. In this role, she delivered qualitative trainings to students and colleagues based in those three countries and collated qualitative data (interviews, ethnographic fieldnotes, etc.) across the three countries to compare and contrast the lived experience of CL to inform future interventions.
